Spatial Conservation and Landscape Ecology (SCALE) Lab

Protecting our planet, one patch at a time.

Protecting our planet, one patch at a time

From drones to satellites and everything in between, we use Earth observing technologies and computational approaches to monitor our changing planet and forecast the fate and functioning of the biosphere.

We work at the intersection of science, technology and society to harness the massive amounts of environmental data being produced daily, answer key questions about our planet, and partner with stakeholders in order to implement actions to improve life on Earth. We use geospatial tools and techniques, including Remote Sensing and GIS, to understand the spatial patterns of biodiversity and the processes driving those patterns.

The SCALE lab is located at The University of California, Santa Barbara in the Department of Geography. We are also affiliated with the Center for Spatial Studies and Data Science, which focuses on promoting spatial thinking and spatial analytics across academia, industry, and government agencies.
